Breaking out of Heaven! - Prose of Ramadhan Part 49

"Oh-oh" muttered the sinner.
53. Heaven Break
Sometimes bad things don’t happen
Simply because all trapdoors
And backdoors of heaven
Have been locked shut, at least for the night,
And as much as you want to break out,
You simply cannot!

That old luvvie, Edmund Burke (1727-1729) once said that "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men to do nothing". That old sinner, Taufiq bin Abdul Khalid (aka me, 1970 - still tottering about living) once wrote that "All that is necessary for the triumph of good is that evil me(n) do nothing."

As a registered sinner with the Society of Holy Sinning, I can understand how we evil men are often tempted to sin. To do all sorts of naughty things. Sometimes good triumphs because we sinners simply just sit on our hands. But at other times, good triumphs because of some 'coincidences' that litter our lives - we lose our car keys, we don't have money, we are trapped in an elevator, we are surrounded by aunties and other good creatures, we took a wrong turning, we oversleep etc... The possibilities are endless.

Of course, in the lore of Sufism (and other mystical 'isms', I might add), there are no such things as 'coincidences'. So whatever happenstances which occurred to stop us in our tracks (while we were planning the nefarious deeds) were all fated and meant to be. It's not that we wanted to be good (good here meaning doing nothing bad). We wanted out of goodness (at least temporarily). We found goodness boring and ill-conceived to satisfy us. We wanted to leave the heaven of our conscience and jump into the muddy pools of our ego, but alas, someone locked the exit door of heaven!

So thank you God, for intervening when You did. And I am sorry for doing bad things when You did not intervene. All bad is from us poor dumb creatures, and all good is Truly and Magnificently Yours!

Ya Huuu!

Take care, sunshine and have a wonderful day. Next posting: The Sinners' Guide to Buttering up God.
