THE LONELY SHORE - of certainties and openness

The Lonely Shore
I am a lonely shore,
A sandy bank
By a deep, rich sea.
All manner of people walk on me,
Leaving their footprints
Coming out of the waves,
Their enduring wandering
Ending Hu knows where.

In the imprints in my heart
I can see their path
And the beliefs
They say they believe in.

But I cannot live
On another person's belief,
So I ask that God Almighty
Give me my own belief'
To believe in,

And not leave me
Forever a lonely shore,
A sandy bank
By a deep, rich sea.
......................

Keep it open. Do not close your heart, sunshine. Do not say or act, "Yup, I know it all. I don't need to know anymore. My mind and heart is made up..." For the simple truth is, truth is not as simple as that. And when you are seeking to be the dust beneath the feet of saints, or watchdogs at their door, you have to keep nimble and awake. Awake to challenges to your own certainty, awake to whatever God Almighty may arrange to come your way, "Hmm... let us see how Taufiq deals with THIS, that old Mr,Know-it-all,,,"

The firm toehold. But we must have some certain rock. An unchangeable principle, a toehold in our heart that we must protect, Perhaps, if you are a Muslim, it would be our declaration of faith (the syahadah) - I bear witness that there is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God, These are the words that make life, truly worth living for. Indeed, in its words is the true flowering of humanity's potential and promise - and your own, whatever be your dream or talent.

Keeping the values. And the final point is this - may we never ever, in our efforts to keep to our syahadah, do or say or permit anything to happen that directly or, more often that not, indirectly destroy the very values and connection of the Divinity and our humanity that is part of our syahadah.

For in our lifetime alone we have seen enough blood, enough depravity, enough lies and hypocrisies, all done 'in the name of God'. Do you not agree, my love?

THE CONSTANT LOVE - prophethood, master and servant in the practice of Truth, Patience and Constancy.

A Red Rose Heart, by Cristina Colombo, Milan, Italy

The Constant Prophet
He is one Prophet,
But in constant servanthood,
With one vision constantly upon the Divine Presence
And one vision constantly upon Creation,

He is the Master appointed for all Creation,
But in servanthood he is without parallel!
He looks constantly upon all of Creation
With incomparable empathy, mercy and compassion,

For is he not God's own anointed Mercy to all of us?

And is it any wonder that God loves him best of all?
....................................

A Love that is Constant. There is no love more sublime than a love that is practiced with truth, patience and constancy. And there is no practitioner of truth, patience and constancy more exalted and worthy of praise and imitation than our Most Beloved Muhammad Habibullah (saws).

The Master and the Servant. Often, I have heard (and read) the Prophet (saws) being referred to as 'The Master of Creation' - God's appointed representative to all His creation, through whom God weighs and determines the merit (or demerit) of men and djinn. But like all things about our Messenger (saws), the word 'master' needs to be studied a bit closer. After all, if I was a 'master', you know what I would do? I would probably be bossing all of creation for my own selfish desires. And I would allow my ego to gain ascendancy over my better self, until ultimately, like many fallen kings and pharaohs before, I would become a slave to my own ego... and lose mastery even over my own self.

But such is the nature of our beloved Habibullah (saws), his 'masterhood' is inextricably connected to his noble station of servanthood. And not just any ordinary servanthood, but the servant most beloved to God Almighty. For undoubtedly, in the personality of Nabi Muhammad (saws), the love, kindness and mercy is so refined in its emphatic manifestation to all of creation... that he cannot but be the most beloved of Allah (swt), in God's own favourite reference to Himself as ar-Rahman and ar-Rahim (the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful).

May we find the best path towards refining our own understanding and application of the Prophet Muhammad's (saws) manifold personality, especially in the noble pursuit of truth, patience and constancy.
By (the token of) Time (through the ages),
Verily Man is in loss,
Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds,
and (join together) in the mutual teaching of
Truth, Patience and Constancy.
(al Quran 103, Yusuf Ali)

WHEN WE FORGET, WE FALTER - remembering God and His Goodness

When the One
How happy am I to be sad,
When the One to make me happy is You.

How healthy am I to be ill,
When the One to heal me is You.

How joyful is my broken heart,
When the One to mend it is You.

How wise am I to be foolish,
When the One to teach me is You.

How contented am I to be lost,
When the One looking for me is You.

How victorious am I to be defeated,
When the One to conquer me is You.

How unworried am I to be broken,
When the One to pick up my broken pieces is You.

How beautiful am I in my plainness,
When the One to blush my cheeks,
To comb my hair, to hold my hand
And lift my veil Is You
And none but You...
....................

When we forget, we falter. Someone told me a little while back that we make mistakes, we commit sin unto ourselves and others, simply when we forget. We forget that behind every sadness and happiness, success and failures, calamities and joyous surprises, behind the veil of our supposed knowledge and certain ignorance, there is none there but God Almighty. So we overreact. We lose our balance. We do an 'oopsie'.

The Beautiful Symmetry. When the truth of it all is that there is only Hu (meaning He), who is none other than God Himself planning the ebb and rise of our fortunes, our birth, marriage, work, illness, children and death. If we remember this, surely there is nothing to despair for us, once we realise we are nothing in His Loving Embrace... so that we might finally see the beautiful symmetry of His Works, the infinite beauty of His Creation, and the unimaginable mercy of His Compassion.

Have a wonderful Eidil Adha, sunshine. Don't forget. Try to remember. And if you see me falter (as I surely will!), help me and remind me of His Goodness.

Our greeting of peace unto the Prophet Muhammad (saws), his noble family and companions ,and unto the saints for the sinners... alive and living in the grave.

Truth, God and the Bridle of Adab - the best virtue is good manners (adab), and real truth only manifests itself in the Divine Presence of Truth

Speaking the truth to power
I spoke truth to power
When I said good morning to my father,
I spoke truth to power
When I said goodbye upon my mother’s passing,
I spoke truth to power
When I said my marriage vows,
I spoke truth to power
When I spoke at the divorce proceedings,
I spoke truth to power
When I raised my voice at my son,
I spoke truth to power
When finally I said that I was sorry,
I spoke truth to power
When I orated in a crowded hall,
I spoke truth to power
In my prayer and its private intimacy

I spoke truth to power
Every second of my life,
But to Love, to the Power behind the power
I spoke the truth to the Truth
When I promised Him that
I shall adore Him and no other.
 ……………………………………….

Over a couple of days, an old friend has been trying to share with me the lessons of truth, the Truth, and Love. It took him some time because I am kinda thick and slow with the uptake. But this was the outcome of our secret liaison...

Speaking the truth (in its proper sequence). We should always speak the truth. That is virtue. But there is always many different truths that we can choose to share with our listener at a single given time. So the sequence of truths that we disclose to our listener is our choice. And it is Adab (good manners) that we choose to say the truth that does not grate the listener, that does not belittle or anger the listener. Instead, speak the truths that soothes the listener and encourages him towards hope, knowledge, humanity, compassion and mercy. And this is better, because the best virtue is Adab.

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s.), the Bridle of Adab.

Real truth is with Truth. Real truth and openness is only in the Divine Presence, that is why in the third last line of the prose, truth is being spoken to Truth (Haq), which is one of the mighty names and attributes of God. This happens when our senses and our limbs, our past, present and future antecedents admit to our own failings and weaknesses... our confessions of guilt and impropriety before God, who is happily(for us) also known as the Most Compassionate (ar-Rahman) and Most Merciful (ar-Rahim). So do not be discouraged by our very human failures and follies. He who created us, verily, knows us best. Better even than our own timid selves.

Why argue? So unless it is a fundamentally life and death situation, why argue with someone? Even if truth is on your side (or so you think), let the conflict pass you by... after all, it takes two people to make a fight. Restrain your argumentative ego to the Bridle of Adab. I do not think there is a better way, insyaAllah.

Have a happy, care-free, argument-free day, sunshine.

His Indifference - Freedom, what a poison chalice you may turn out to be!

His Indifference
Oh love,
Do not leave me this way.
In the shadows of Your disapproval,
In the well of my sorrow as
You turn away and You say,
Do as you will!

Oh love,
Do not leave me to my ignorance,
Do not leave me to my folly,
Do you not leave me in
The drought of uncaring,
In the famine of unknowing,
As You turn away and You say,
Do as you wish!

Am I not your weak servant?
Am I not your beloved creature
That you shaped and formed
And in a time long ago
You blew into the clay form
Of my Ancestor, Adam
The Spirit?

Oh love,
I ask you in the name of that Spirit…

To not leave me in the heartless desert of
“Do as you will!” and “Do as you wish!

Or even worse still… “Do whatever you want!
………………………..

The Age of Enlightenment passed me by. The French Revolution leaves me cold. The frozen rebuke makes me wilt at the thought of choice. Have I, dear friend, grown old?

Or less hasty? When we were young, we were so damn obsessed with growing older. Why... we cannot grow older fast enough. Not that we ever anticipated that growing older will inevitably make us one day, actually old.

And now that I am here, at the cusp of my 43rd year of life come 2013, I am not so hasty. I want to savour life. Like a fine wine swirling in my wine glass. And one of the things which comes with age is a bit (more) of circumspection and aforethought...

"I wanna do this, God. What do You think? Good idea?"

"I rather not do this, o' Creator of the World(s). Are You with me?"

"I am just gonna flip a coin on this... What say You, o' He Who Plans the Best?"

"Just another slice of apple pie... Too much, o' Most Benevolent One?"

But whether God approves or disapproves, you sometimes just do it anyway. Yet it is not His disapproval that I am ultimately worried about. But His indifference. That finally, after the millionth time I ignore His gentle counsel voiced through the guidance of the Prophet and the Holy Quran, through the whisper of my very own conscience, God finally gives up on me and declares, "Do whatever you want!"

Ah, freedom, what a poison chalice you may turn out to be! May God never leave us to the devices of our own choices...

A little optimism with your Monday morning cup of tea - the Sky of Love, the Glow of Muhammad the Light, and the bumbling sinners holding on to the balloon...

Holding On
I don't know where I will end up,
Holding on, as best as I can,
On a heart-shaped balloon
With a short wingspan...

A little bit of self-audit,
A little bit of self-deprecating humour,
A little bit of study,
A little bit of funny,
A little dose of serious-ity,
A little dose of irony,
A little bit of praying,
As upon the wings of a prayer,
I go a floatin'...

Laughing and crying,
Singing and dancing,
Learning and obeying,
Disobeying and regretting,
Loving and yearning
Upon the singular path
That attracts all the best
Of man and their kings...

The Path of Love.
Thus, only God and His Prophet
Knows why I am here,
Spoiling the scenery
With my floating indiscreet prose.
.........................................

We are all floating. Clinging for dear life (and sanity) on the thin thread that is tied to that big balloon in the celestial sky called Love. We are all floating. No matter how certain we are with our calculations of market trends. No matter how assured we are in our 'facts' and experiences. We are all floating in the Sky of God, as bumbling souls, big or small, fat or thin, hoping and praying that God sends us to the best of places, to the highest firmament of divinely graced happiness, over the valleys of Man, up to the Highlands of the Saints, further beyond to the peak of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s). And beyond? Unto the divine presence, veiled from even the highest flying Angels of God, to where the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s) is, waiting for us, beckoning us, and breathing the guiding wind of truth, mercy and love... that we may come to him soon. Very, very soon.

My name is Taufiq, if you would care to know. And as a student of this life, I think I would have despaired for Mankind (and myself) as I witness, on the daily basis, human greed and folly, spreading fasad (corruption), falsehood and tyranny through out the lands. But I am assured by the balloon that I hold on to, that it will not fail me. Not in a million years, not in an infinite span of sad days and crying nights will I consider that God would fail me, that Muhammad Habibullah, the anointed Mercy to all the world(s) would fail me. We are all carried in the wind by the very best prayers and wishes of all of God's own Angels, by the very best desires of the Companions and Saints of the Prophet.

Now the day called Monday is open anew for you. The Angels have awoken the Sun, and the birds are bursting forth in their musical choir for you, and for me. This is a good day. This is the very best of days, for it is another twenty-four hours to get to know yourself. For verily, if you but knew yourself, as God knows you, you would fall in love with yourself, you will keep yourself safe from your own neglect, and the Light of Love burnished in the Glow of Muhammad the Light shall never grow dimmed. Indeed, in these dark times it will shine brighter than a million galaxy of supernovas.

There... A little optimism with your Monday morning cup of tea. Go forth with God, sunshine!

The truth about The Truth - Haqq and the Light of Muhammad

Truth hurts?
Truth hurts they say,
But it is not truth they meet,
But facsimiles of truths,
The walking untruths raised from
The burning pyre of Man’s ego…

So in ignorance, they embrace the flaming untruth
Burning as they hold the fiery corpse in their embrace,
Hollering, “Ow! Ow! Ow! How painful is truth!”
…………………………………..

There is no path better and no journey more fulfilling than the walk your spirit takes as you begin your life as a little baby jettisoned from God’s heaven through the blessed union of your beloved father and mother.  And there is no better destination, no homecoming more excellent than what awaits you in the Divine Presence of Haqq, God the Truth. How fortunate you are...

Thus says the wise who deign to live and teach amongst us sinners.

So if we wish to follow their knowledge (and why should you not?), then the truth that we think is the truth, but hurts us, is not truth at all. For how can we ever think that God, the Truth, desires any hurt upon a single atom of our being, upon a single light of our light that comes from the NurMuhammad (Light of Muhammad ) (s.a.w.)?

This is the truth about The Truth.

Coming from a hopeless sinner, to find a home in the only place in all of Creation that God made as fitting for His Knowledge, His Love, His Beauty, His Mercy and Compassion…

Your heart.

The Perilous Life of a Dervish - losing your heart and mind to the oracles, signs and symbols of God

Life if always full of peril. Earlier this morning my heart was
at risk of being stolen by this little boy...
25. Bewitched
I am bewitched
By the beautiful smiles
And gentle voices
Of men, women and children.

These oracles of heaven
God has left behind
To console the wayward and the lost.
.................

While some men who search for conspiracies and the secret symbols of the enemy of humanity (we can call him the Devil) are busy attracting the knowledge that is required for their craft, I am afraid that I have absolutely no talent for such endeavours (too much hard work). But I see a greater danger for mankind, the real threat to our independence and freedom... God.

... and of course, in our family are those always keen
to imperil our sense of loneliness and make us a part
of something better and greater...

For the truth is, sunshine, we are all imperiled. Our very own souls are at risk - imperiled by the oracles and signs, by the codes and symbols of the Lord that He has left scattered all over the world to entrap us...

Men Losing Everything
Right from the beginning of time,
Men have been at risk of losing their hearts
To the indescribable beauty of women,
Losing their sense of balance holding
Their beloved children in their arms,
Losing their intoxicated heads (sometimes, literally!)
Drunk in the Truth of God,
Losing their freedom of movement
To God's own agenda,
Losing their hearth and home
To the wanderlust of the Dervish,
Losing their riches to
The riches of the heart,
Losing their pride for the Glory of God,
Losing their wayward and foolish ways
For the Sunnah (traditions) of the Prophet (pbuh),
Losing their wasteful fear for the beneficial fear of the Lord,
Losing their weary hindsight
For the inspired foresight of the seekers of God,
Losing their attraction of this illusory world
For the Eternal Beauty of God,
Losing their dependence on others
To a dependence on God alone,
And seeking no guidance but the guidance
Of Muhammad Habibullah (pbuh), the First Light of Creation!
............................

But when we lose everything, we gain for ourselves nothingness, through which state we may slip through the prison bars of this illusory and transient world for the infinite knowledge of the manifest Mercy and Compassion, Beauty and Truth of God, Lord Creator of all mankind - it is an Ocean of Happiness that has no end in its horizon, sunshine.

... passed away or in passing, God has conspired lethal
traps to ensnare all of humanity to the best,
safest and most beautiful life, for here
and in the hereafter.

The Book, The Heart, The Master and The Ego - a little notation in the journey

SM: Where is this Taufiq?
SB: God knows...

The Book, The Heart, The Master and The Ego
Did I leave my Book of Etiquette with you?
It has a purple cover and inscribed
On it are three little words…
Ku Ash Punye (property of Ku Ash)

Did I leave my heart in your care?
It is coloured in many hue
And inscribed are three little words…
Tuhanku dan Nabiku (My God and My Prophet)

Have you seen my patience somewhere here?
I cannot tell you how it looks like
For I have not seen it for myself

Have you seen my Master recently?
He is old with long white and grey beard,
He is now an internet star, but long before
Youtube ever came to being he was
An acolyte of the Stars of the Prophet -
His Companions and Saints
Loyal and true to His Word

Oh… my ego, you ask?
My ego is here with me
Chained to my uneven temper
Sometimes ruling over me
Sometimes ruled by me

We are on a journey,
My ego and me,
Upwards across a mountain face,
To the furnace of the white fire
Where burns all men
And their destructive desires.

Well, that is the choice
I am offering my ego...
The hard road or
The easy way.

And this is my constant transaction,
Day after day after day…
…………………….

In the Dergah, with music, dance, remembrance of God
and praise for the His Prophet. Sometimes the big battle
with the ego involves a lot of singing and dancing,
...kinda overwhelming our state of rebellion
with joyous, translucent
transcendent Love.

Ku Ash.
al fatiha
Our war with the our ego is a constant in our lives. A daily almost continuous conflict between our conscience and our pride, hubris and nafs (base desires). On our side is God Almighty, which should be an advantage. But it is an advantage only if we awake to what God has given humanity - His Messengers and Prophets, His Holy Books, His Saints and the saintly ones.

For us sinners dressed ostensibly as Muslims, our singular path to salvation is through the living, breathing, very-much-in-the-present guidance from the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), Seal of the Prophets and Mercy to all the worlds. We sinners, so unworthy, have no religion. We are borrowing the Way of Muhammad, and his religion of Islam. We are clutching desperately to the robe of love and mercy that cloaks the Light of Muhammad (NurMuhammad), a horizon of divine light that is boundless, God's own Beloved and the Chosen One.

Well, all I can say is that this world is certainly never boring and always interesting, betrayed as we are constantly by our traitorous ego that dwells within us, and constantly conspired against by the rebellious Devil, dwelling outside but always within whispering distance to our ears. Thus, caught between a rock and a hard place, where do we hide? We do not, we look up to the examples and guidance of our elders and those who are given authority over us. We clutch the robe of the nearest Saint flying overhead and beg him... "Take me to the Prophet, take me to God!"

He he he.

Have a lovely day, sunshine. It is an uncommonly cold morning here in the tropics, but I know that above, hidden by an overcast sky is the Sun, shining bright in places where only Angels and Saints can fly.

History, Atheists and the Cosmic Sulk

87. Beautiful Discord II (Lord of History and Right)
I have heard both versions of the story,
And both are right.
I have heard both sides of the disagreement,
And both are right.

For I serve
The Lord of History
And the Lord of Right,
And the expanse of His Dominions,
Is lo, wide!
...............

The reason why we learn history is to learn the curve and momentum of past events. For what transpired yesterday is the seed of both present and future occurrences.

If this is what you see, you have already missed the ball.
To hit the ball you must anticipate. And to anticipate
you must understand history.
If you learn the throw of a baseball pitcher, after the one hundred thousandth pitch, you can make a very good estimate as to how fast the ball is flying and its trajectory just by observing the stance of the player.

Bums in the air, brows on the ground,
in prostration before God... alhamdulillah.
The future is a lot like that too. Indeed, according to the Mawlana of the little town of Lefke, Cyprus, our Lord God has not hidden anything, and nothing is veiled from us. For how would He be known as God Most Fair and Just, if He has not bestowed upon us the means to understand Him and unlock the workings of the Universe? "I have hidden nothing." God says. "I have veiled nothing."

Alas, it is we who are often veiled. And because we cannot comprehend God and Creation, some people are inclined to blame God. Then it is only a bus stop away from disbelief. So it is not disbelief that Atheists feel, but dissatisfaction. I guess you can call it a Cosmic Sulk.

I must shower now. I am not sulking, I am waiting for the sky to rain celestial pearl drops to wrest the dirt from my body, and the sins from my spirit.

Have a lovely shower, sunshine.

God, Love-sick Fools and Knowledge - good manners will get you everywhere...

10. No words necessary
Words are a necessary medium
For the transmission of ideas,
But no words are necessary
For the transmission of experiences.

Though you may find us scouring books,
Know ye that what we look for
Is not contained in the books,
But in the heart of believers
In whatever form that they may be wearing.
.......................

Experiences. I find the experiences of people fascinating. Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Gnostics, and even Atheists. God is Truth (Haqq), so my brethren often tell me, but the experiences of all people are truths too. To them. In a world where every Adam and Eve has his/her own little opinions often cast as truths, it is always good to listen with an open heart and mind. Because somehow, even if you cannot agree with their ideology, there was something in their experiences and the books that they read, and the leaders and teachers that they listened to, that fashioned their views.

Courtesies. Whether you say you believe in God, or you do not believe He exists, there is a history and tradition behind that opinion. And you must always be courteous (Adab) with people's history, for that is who they truly are... even more so than what they are actually saying at any given moment.

A Feeling. But that is all about 'knowledge',. Amongst my friends (I have a few, sinners the whole lot of them!), they hold no real opinion, and their belief in God is not an opinion, but more a feeling. Oh, it can be couched in intellectual metaphysical terms of course, but if you force them to a corner, they will say, "I am in love... in love with God and  His Prophet, and that is to me True Love by any other name..."

Its hard to argue with such people, you see. How can you debate with love-sick fools? Better to leave them to their own devices, lest you get infected. Hehehe.

So I try not to judge people by their opinions. I am much more affected by their manners and kind courtesies. Such people, I truly admire, in whatever form of faith that they believe.

Have a lovely Sabbath, sunshine.

King Abdullah of Jordan, the Caliph of Islam, Emir of All the Believers - May God grant his reign to be merciful and beautiful

The Lion of the Desert
O’ rightful heir,
O’ rightful king,
O’ rightful deputy,
We are in the desert of ignorance,
We are thirsty for guidance,
We are waiting for a leader,
We are proclaiming our allegiance to thee,
Following a full moon shining over Qubruz,
We are proclaiming our allegiance to thee,
O’ Lion of the Desert,
O’ Lion of God!

Accept our allegiance
With kisses on your blessed hands and feet,
Accept our allegiance
As weak servants to thee,
O’ Sultan!
O’ Lion of the Desert!
O’ Lion of God!
With your three regiments,
Bearing the Banner of the Prophet!
The banner of the Mahdi!
And your royal standard!

Truth is with you, we are with Truth!
Falsehood is broken and wounded!
Truth is with you, we are with Truth!
Falsehood is broken as Truth commanded!
.................

We have all been waiting...
This is what I call a technical prose and perhaps more relevant to the Muslims, as it is related to the new Caliph of Islam, Amirul Muqminin (Leader of the Believers) - His Majesty King Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. But Muslim, believer or otherwise, you will want to be able to answer your kid, "Hey Dad, where were you when the new Caliph of Islam was announced?" Your reply: "Oh my son, I was reading that fatuous blog 'The Sinners Almanac'. In fact I got the news from there, of all the unlikely places!" But to share a little bit more disclosure than is common by your reticent writer, the pronouncement by the Sufi shaykh in the small town of Lefke, Cyprus can be seen on video by Clicking Here - The pertinent videos are entitled "To King Abdullah" (28.04.2012). And you can scroll down to the earlier video entitled "Arshu Sham" (08.04.2012). For English, click on the subtitle.

Have a beautiful Sunday, sunshine. God bless you.

Earlier Postings on the New Caliph:
* ISLAM'S CALIPH ON THE THRONE OF JORDAN? - Islam came as a stranger and will come back as a stranger... Therefore give glad tidings to the strangers...
* IN THE STRUGGLE IN THE MEANING OF WORDS THE LION OF GOD IS NOT SLEEPING - The Caliph, The Believers and the Banner of Truth

Footnote 30.04.2012: There is a little bit more flurry of activity about the pronouncement on the new Caliph. And perhaps it is enlightening (but predictable) that it has become some subject of ridicule and even vilification in some Muslim forums. It is also ironic that the only online coverage is by Muslims forums that attack the good King Abdullah as either unworthy (read too Western), a traitor to the Arabs, a CIA flunky or even worse, an Israeli-zionist agent on one hand, and on the other hand are a whole tribe of neo-con fundamentalist 'Christian' end-of-time Dominionist websites (like Jihadwatch) that have long eyed King Abdullah, being a direct descendant of the Prophet (pbuh) as a likely candidate for the Caliph.
