Metaphors and Divine Promises

Realities, Metaphors and Analogies
If you say this world is real,
I will not disagree with you,
If you say this world is illusory,
I will not disagree with you,
If you say that this world is a metaphor,
I will not disagree with you,
As a reality and an analogy,
I will not disagree with you.

For every day, and every moment,
So long as you are a thinking and feeling
Member of the human race,
You will live in both worlds,
Standing across two meanings
Whose divide is wider than the Universe,
Seeing illusions and bearing witness
To His Embrace, He that is God Almighty,
The Last and the First.
..................

I have not written much but here I am, still very much alive and kicking. Metaphorically, speaking. He he he.

Have a wonderful Eidul Adha, sunshine. May Allah (swt) ease our journey from faithlessness to faithfulness, from all that is ugly and illusory to all that is true and lovely... towards Muhammad Habibullah, Mercy to all the Worlds (saws).

5 PROSE TO MUHAMMAD, SAYYIDINA SA'DULLAH (S.A.W.S), THE JOY OF ALLAH! - The Ramadan Story, Part 20

1. Despair
Tell despair that I shan't drink the wine from its cellar,
For I am happy with what God has bestowed,
............

Because we only despair when we are dissatisfied. So be happy!

2. Doubt
Tell the troll of doubt that it shan't grab me from under its bridge,
For my God has given me wings to fly high in the sky,
............

Because you need a pair of them, the wing of ilm (knowledge) and the wing of adab (good manners) to fly. And as a bonus, an ancient friend just shared with me that a lot of salawat (greetings of peace and invocations of praise for Muhammad s.a.w.s.) will bring a nice breeze to help you in your flight to Hu knows where! Rejoice!

3. Hubris
Tell the minions of hubris that they will not confound me again,
For I have seen the errors of my ways, in the past,
In the present
And in the future,
............'

Because hubris comes from certainty. And awareness of our mistakes reminds us that certainty is only with God, not us. Be a mureed (follower/student) always!

4. Usury
Tell the warlocks of usury in their towers of greed
That I see through their deceit,
For my God has forbidden to us usury,
............

Because one of the worse apparent blackmagic is the sorcery of usury. And God Almighty and His Prophet (s.a.w.s.) has declared war on usury. Join the winning team!

5. Deceit
Tell the spin-witches of public relations that I will not be distracted,
For there is no brand, no name, no glamour I desire more
Than the presence of God and His pleasure!
............

Because Allah (s.w.t.) is utterly wonderful beyond words, and His Pleasure is none other than the Prophet Muhammad, Sayyidina Sa'dullah (The Joy of Allah). So be joyful with the most joyful of all mankind! The most joyful of all Creation!

May you have a wonderful (and divinely joyous) last day of Ramadan the Blessed, sunshine.

This read, is a Joyful Book.

Who am I? Hu is He? - lighting our way with remembrance... Allah Allah Allah...

Who am I? Hu is He?
When I am in the dark,
When all life appears black,
And there is no light to be seen,
I simply remember...
Who I am,
And Hu He is...

"Oh Lord, you are my Lord!
And I, your tired, helpless servant!"

And just like that a light appears,
First as a tiny flicker, then a white flame
Before bursting into a mighty blazing light,
A living light, a governing light!
Banishing away all my sadness,
All my fears and all my despair...

As my soul voices a whimper,
A whisper of gratitude...

"Oh Lord, I knew You would always care..."

('Hu' is used in Arabic, to mean 'He', signifying the only He in Absolute Existence, being God Almighty)
.............................

Yesterday I was unwell and kept to my bed, and today I am still a little weak. But the worst appears over, and things are looking up. I will not lie to you, sunshine, and say that my mind and emotion was unaffected. Seized in some moments, words tumble from my lips, Why... why, God... why?"

But then I remember Him, and that I am addressing Him. And that happenstances of 'good' and 'bad' fortunes are but labels we put to events that God has fated for us. So I say, "Alhamdulillah (praise to God), it could have been far, far worse. Thank You, God."

And to top it off, my ugly bout of eczema on my hands and feet seems to have faded away with a little gel cream I purchased from my neighbourhood pharmacy. And of course, I have passed through yet another chapter in my life with God, so when all things are considered, is there any other words I can express but Thank You to You, Allah(s.w.t.) and to Your Rasul, Muhammad Habibullah(s.a.w.s.)?

And thank you to you also, sunshine. For sharing a little corner of your thoughts with me today.

Even the longest storm has an end...

Seeing Through the Nothingness of Self - the garden, the stage and the Stage Master, Muhammad Habibullah (s.a.w.s.)

Black or White, Tiger or Mousedeer?
If you are the black
Will I be the white?
If you are tiger
Shall I be the mousedeer?
If you are the hunter
Will I be your prey?
If you will be the Moon at night
Shall I be the Sun at daybreak?
If you are the shore
Will I be the sea?
If you are the accused
Shall I be the jury?
If you are struck blind
Would you still see me?

If you will be the Pharaoh
Shall I be Moses and Aaron?
If you are the Queen of Hearts
Can I be your knight errant?
If you will be the damsel in distress
Shall I be the gunslinger?
If you will be right
Will I be wrong?
We can be this, that and the other,
So long as we remember, my love...
To whom we all belong.

People walk by,
Passing us unknowing
Of the universe we create
And the roles we play
In our mould of clay.
........................................................

al-marhum Shaykh Raja Ashman Shah
ibni Sultan Azlan Shah ('coach')
Dear God, I need Thy love, sweet and beautiful as it is, and however Thou may imagine in Thy infinite imagination. I have found myself, and I saw nothing there. Then I saw through the nothingness to see Thy perfect order and subtle ministration of this beautiful, beautiful world Thou has created for us, us poor weak servants - too playful and foolish, naughty little children let loose in Thy Garden of Paradise called Earth. Protect us from the accursed one who ever seeks to lead us astray. Help us, o' Lord of the Garden!

Dear God, in whatever role I may play with my opposite, in whatever mask I wear, in whatever masquerade party I am invited to, let me be Thy answer to the eternal questions of Mankind - who am I? why was I created? Where did I come from and to whom shall I return to?

Dear God, I can play the bad part. I can play the good part. Guide me always to the good part. Send me the script, send me the director, send me my acting coach, send me my agent and only true Master... bring me unto the guiding light of Thy Prophet Muhammad Habibullah (s.a.w.s.), Thy Own Beloved, and anointed mercy to all actors upon this stage that we call the world.

THE DJINN SPRING - Politics, the Devil and his small 'd' and the Arab Spring

1. The small 'd'
My Lord is not democratic,
So I do not subscribe to
What is not of My Lord,

My Lord is unique
And He does not account
For rights which He bestows not,

Some say it is the Greek,
From where this story began,
But the tale is old,
Much older than the age of this world
To a time and a tale many have forgotten,
When a Djinn of the highest rank
Felt compelled to reject the Lord's command,
Looking at Adam and replying dismissively,
"I will not bow. I am better than he."
.....................

The Big 'D'. That 'Djinn of the highest rank' is of course, as you may already know, the Devil, or Satan or Bezelbub or by any other name that he is known to mankind. God created our common ancient grandfather, and then commanded the whole of creation to prostrate before Adam. And inevitably, Azazil (as he was then known honourably as the first, mightiest and most loyal Djinn of God) in his pride and hubris gazed into Adam, scoffed at the idea of bowing before a puny, weak creature of water and earth, and uttering in disdain, "Ana khairun minhu (I am better than he)". And verily followed the rest of the Djinn Nation in rebellion against God's Word.

Thus arose the very first democratic protest in all of Creation. The 99 Percent against the One. No doubt, media commentators (if they were in existence way back then) would label it 'The Occupy Creation Movement' or 'The Djinn Spring'.

My personal distaste for democracy comes not just from the scriptural lessons, but from real life events that overtakes my otherwise happy days with examples of Man's folly. And how sad when clerics and religious teachers (who really ought to know better) decide to take part in the electoral process and muddy their scholarly cloaks by dragging them through the mud of human politics. Because this is what would happen - they would call unto the population to their most base common denominators - fear, anger, greed and pride.

Yesterday's headline in a local newspaper: "UMNO (the Muslim party in Federal power) heeds the call of PAS (the Muslim party in opposition) to unite to against the Prophet-insulting movie.".This is religious jingoism and the inevitable end when you mix religion and politics.
Why must we ALWAYS play according to someone else's script?
We are led by the nose and we don't even realise it,
thinking ourselves so pious and learned.
*sigh*

My brother, may God bless his soul, said this to me, "Why must we ALWAYS react in anger, with street protests, the burning of flags and blood-curdling cries for vengeance? Why not say, 'How sad we are by the insults towards our beloved Prophet by those who know nothing of him, but lies and prejudices?' We hope they will be rightly-guided, insyaAllah..."

I don't always agree with my brother, but he is right, I think. May we all be rightly-guided always.

InsyaAllah.

Have a happy insult-free hate-free Sunday, sunshine. It is a beautiful wet drizzly morning here in Kuala Lumpur.

A Mirror of God Looking at another Mirror of God - in the journey to nothingness

1. All Ours
All things invented and made,
All things written and read,
All things of beautiful birth
Are in truth, ours.
..............

An ancient friend shared with me, "Old chum, if you think you are something, you will have nothing but shadows and illusions of this world - money, power, men and women. If you have achieved nothingness, then everything is yours for the taking, and it will be everything in its essences and hidden meaning!"

The meanings are all behind that door only. Don't go looking for meanings
through any other door, however inviting it may look to you.

He paused, and smiled. "You are confused? Let me elaborate. It is important to gain something in its essence and hidden meaning because the outward shapes and forms are merely that - shapes and forms that we perceive by our senses. Your face and limbs hide your heart, brain and other organs that make you function. And when you pierce through the skin and look at the organs themselves, they too are only shapes and forms of the minute cells that make them. And then you go down to the level of cells, molecules, atoms, sub-atomic particles and etc, etc, etc... There is no end to the essences and hidden meanings of this physical reality. And beyond that there is of course the spiritual dimension of things created by God. Which in itself is a whole other world for you to explore and gain entry into. But it is invisible to the human eye. To attain such vision you must learn too see this world beyond its forms, to make the forms invisible and transparent, that you might see the beautiful working order in this wonderous machine which God has created and Man call the Universe. Really, to trade for petty baubles and trinkets of this world is a waste of your energy..."

Then he got up and walked away. I was left alone nursing my cup of coffee, after which I also left to continue my journey to nothingness. InsyaAllah, you shall errr... not see me there at all! And I shall not see you there also, transparent as you have become to me and I have become to you - a Mirror of God looking at another Mirror of God.

Hehehe. This is what they call an overbearing ambition. But why covet the Sultan's Palace when you can have the Sultan Himself?

Sufi Travel Advice: Pack light when you are embarking
on the journey to nothingness. You will have to discard all
of them anyways - all our masks and deceptions, all our attachments
and pretension - all to be left behind approaching the
Divine Presence of God and His Prophet...

Have a perfectly happy day, sunshine.

The Sinners Guide to Scams and Cons

“Between a fellow who is stupid and honest and one who is smart and crooked, I will take the first. I won’t get much out of him, but with that other guy
I can’t keep what I’ve got”~Lewis B Hershey

THE LANGUAGE OF THE CON. As a practicing lawyer, I have heard many, many fishy stories. I have read many, many documents, great works of forgery, and in some instances, fantasy - in one instant that I shan't easily forget is coming across an official Land Office document which was written over by one individual to alienate a certain part of his property as a garden and home for elves (no kidding). I have learnt a little I think, to distinguish between the sincere and the less-than-sincere, and use my nose to smell a rat. I have also come across many ‘businessmen’ who are honest but naïve in the ways of the world. But  of course, I have also come across a number of con artists. These are some telling points about our ethically-handicapped friends (of course, some of whom are down right criminal) –

THE GREAT PYRAMIDS - If it looks like pyramid scheme. If it smells, walks and talks like a pyramid scheme. Then, in ALL probability, it is a pyramid scheme. It doesn’t matter what the ‘object for sale / trade’ is. In my short life I have come across blatant gimmicks like shoe polish, mattresses and herb-infused women’s err... feminine pads that doubles as an alternative remedy for high-fever – you plop it on your forehead. (I kid you not), that is utilized as the ‘trade’ to justify collecting a disproportionately high ‘purchase price’. Alternatively, I have come across pyramid schemes organized around a real estate development, with millions upon millions of dollars invested to market and give a veneer of legitimacy to the fraudulent program. The simple rule is that if there is a ‘down-liner’ structure, if you are required to make a hefty deposit (say, 20-30%), then it is highly likely that it is pyramid-ponzi scheme.

THEY ARE FAST TALKERS! Conmen tend to talk fast. They are not too fond of pauses and silent contemplation. They have a story to sell and they don’t want you thinking too much over it…”And you said that Ferdinand Marcos had this deal with…? What date exactly? Waitaminute, wasn’t he overthrown already then?

THEY TRAVEL IN GROUPS! They often come with hanger-ons. Sometimes two, three even four ‘partners’ who appear to have no role whatsoever but to take up valuable space in your meeting room. Oh, they sometimes nod vigorously in agreement with the lead speaker's claims, and that's it. Most of the time not  a word would they breath through out the entire pitch.

THEY ARE BEING SHADOWED BY THE CIA! If they throw in words suggesting grand conspiracies like the CIA, the FBI, IMF, President of the United States, World Bank, McDonalds, Freemasons… and how these people would come down hard on them for their product (whatever it may be) if only they BUT knew! But of course, in the real world, those that need to be-in-the-know are probably already in-the-know. So the question is, why are such ‘malevolent forces’ not doing anything? Of course the truth is, they don’t care, because it is all a pack of lies.

He was caught and punished. But mainly because he
soaked and conned his own class, the rich.

IT IS YOUR LUCKY DAY! If it is such a great idea, if it is such a brilliant scheme… why are they coming to you? Why not just keep it to themselves, or at the most to their close friends and family? Why need they set up shop in your country and not their own? And even if they had to, why not get venture capital from the USA, Britain or Europe? If the idea is too good to be true, you KNOW that it is too good to be true.

JUST PAY USD20,000 AND YOU ARE GUARANTEED TO GET USD6 MILLION! And finally, the clinching evidence if you have any doubt as to the honesty of any deal - If such a scheme entails you paying a small amount relative to what you will get – say, paying a USD20,000 to help ‘facilitate lottery administrative charges’, ‘pay death duties’, ‘settle bank financial fees', ‘help procure necessary permits to remit monies cross-borders’, through which a disproportionate amount of money (maybe USD6 million and above) is released / remitted into your account, then come on… you have to be naive to fall for such trickery.

Listen to your heart… Though your dry-bone and almost empty wallet is shouting to be filled. This will save you money, or at least the blushes of being duped by a con artist.

This has been a public service broadcast from the sinners’ almanac. I hope you found it to be helpful. Actually, I have been wanting to write this for the longest time.

Thank you for dropping in, sunshine.

The Doctor, the Patient and the Patience of the Ego.

The Knight vs the Ego
Gulp. I should have brought a bigger sword.
The mystics will tell you that the ego is a human conflagration of epic proportions. A fiery multi-headed hydra spitting fire inside you. So your first thought is to fight your ego and to confront it head on like a knight of old against the dragon in the cave. You think of St. George and the Dragon, and so you wear a virtuous armour and arm yourself with the sword of courage. Alas your armour turns into a suit of pride weighing you down, and your sword becomes a weapon of vanity hardly denting your Ego. Score at half time - Ego 1 : You 0.

Alright then, forget about the knight. You become a fireman, and you plug your hose into the hydrant of knowledge, and immediately begin to spray thousands upon thousands of gallons into the inferno of your Ego. For awhile it looks like you are winning, when suddenly you find the Ego growing into a mountain of fire. Whao! You are not quenching the flames because the water has turned into a highly combustible liquid of hubris, and then kaboom! After the smoke have cleared your friends find only remnants of your smouldering fireman's hat. Oopsie. Score at full time - Ego 2 : You 0.
..................

The Doctor is In
So the very first task of a Sufi Master is to heal the mureed (student) of this illness. It is a delicate spiritual procedure, lasting over years and perhaps (probably) the entire lifetime of the mureed. The reason why this surgery takes so long is because often enough the patient doesn't even know that he is ill. Or even if he does, he does not know the extent that the cancerous Ego has eaten into his consciousness. Better not tell him the full diagnosis - is the policy of most Sufi Masters, lest the dire news frighten the poor fellow to death, and before they can heal him right and proper.
Angel: I saw the Master's report about you. It's pretty gruesome. He said that...
Me: I don't want to know! I don't want to knoooooooow....!!!
The second reason why the healing process is extended is because of the very nature of the Ego. It is smart and flexible, tough and diligent. And it is patient. Patiently shadowing your life, through all your ups and downs, flexing its form to suit your pretensions - whether as a sinner or a saint, an angel or a devil. Guiding you subtly to pride, hubris, arrogance, hate and ultimately, anger. If you overcome your ego, it does not complain. It has the patience to wait and bid its time before it strikes next. Do you have the patience to overcome the patience of the Ego?

For most people the answer is no. That is why the Sufi Masters treat their student-patient according to their light and condition. No point testing a mureed only to fail him. So rather than applying a chemo therapy that is likely to kill the patient as it would kill the Ego, the Master treats the illness indirectly - by slowly taking away the dry wood and faggots that help fire the conflagration of the Ego - after all, without fuel how can the fire burn? It is a holistic natural approach to an age-old problem.

And how is my own treatment getting on? Okay I think, although there are some days when it can get pretty bluesy. Overall, I feel good. But it would be better if I followed the doctor's instructions. What  can I say? I am not the most exemplary patient in the ward. But thanks for asking!

Cure for a Broken Heart and the Whining Sinner

Shattered Utterly
I am looking at myself,
In broken pieces on the floor.
For I fell, you see,
And I am shattered.

And for the sadness
Engulfing me?
I can find no word.

So I just sigh, thinking,
Oh folly, where have you led me?
Oh friend, why did you turn on me?
Oh pain, why did you befriend me?
Oh love, why did you leave me?

For I fell, you see.
And I am shattered
Utterly.

How come nobody has come up with an instant cure for heartbreaks? How I wish I could discover one. Wow, I bet would make millions... or even gazillions. I guess when it comes to heartbreaks, the old adage runs true and that only time is the healer, the band-aid to seal the wound and make us whole again.

Sadly, I have no patience. But fortunately, God has decided that this Taufiq fellow is absolutely hopeless, and has thus decided, on His own Majestic discretion, to fill my life with people who are patient. Individuals who remain calm, circumspect and sensible in the face of the most trying of personal tragedies. In the sort of circumstances that would unhinge the most balanced of minds, they appear to be the calm eye in the tornado. Ah, I am sure you know of such people in your own lives. Now if only I would follow their good examples!

17. Support
If Thou do not avail us in our need, who can?
If Thou do not turn Thy gaze into our hearts, who will?
O’ Lord, look! And heal our broken hearts and broken lives
In our destiny and meaning that is Thee only.

Oh, whither did my breath go not glorifying Thee?
Oh, whither did my feet take me if not to Thee?

I am a true coward that way. I get distracted and attached to this world, I forget God and I also forget to be nice until finally something not nice happens to me and my heart gets broken - Then I go running back to God, bitterly regretting each second that I was forgetful of His Presence and Presents.... "Oh, wither did my breath go not glorifying Thee? Oh, whither did my feet take me if not to Thee...?"

You must not be like me, sunshine. Don't be a whiner. Nobody likes a whiner.

Are you trying to be a Sufi, Papa?

Can we be too humble? I think, depending upon your personality, aptitude, upbringing, education and social condition, we all have our pretentiousness. That little white facade which we cloak ourselves in - to be known as a wise man. To be known as pious. To be known as generous and kind. To be known as tolerant. To be known as funny. To be known as 'cool'. But most difficult is to be known as a person without any pretension whatsoever. Someone who appears to be happy and contented just existing. A person happy in the skin he or she is living in. There are precious few of such people about.

Children are smart and honest. And sometimes you are surprised by their observations, expecting them to be concerned only with cartoons, toys and games. But children are also discreet, and they are wise enough to the antics of us adults that sometimes they do not tell you the truth. Because they are canny already to notice that these truths often make adults uneasy.

If you have children, I hope you will be very close to them. And that you will kiss and hug them every day. And that whatever they say, you can accept without blowing your top. You would think that this is such a natural thing to do, but in this hasty and artificial life which we sometimes get caught up in, the most natural thing can often be the most awkward thing to do. I know because I find it awkward too.

But I have faith in you. Have a playful day, sunshine.

Golden Bull does Credit Crunch at Wall Street - The Disconnect between Risk and Profit, Action and Consequence

95. Oh stop it, you! (Blogged in providence)
Oh stop it, you!
Playing Moses
To my Aaron.

While you are communing
On top of the mountain,
I have golden bulls
To deal with down here.

BULLS AT WALL STREET. I find it interesting how the financial sector is sometimes called the financial industry, suggesting that it actually builds or makes something. I think essentially, the financial sector is a service sector. It is important to remember this, that the original aim of banking is to facilitate credit to finance the manufacturing, building, agriculture and infrastructure sectors.

CREDIT CRUNCH 2008. The credit crunch of 2008, the effects of which is still reverberating to this day arose when the bank or finance house which issues out the housing loans sell the loans to investment banks, who in turn packages the loans into CDOs (something like bonds/private debt securities), which in turn is rated as AAA by rating agencies (even if some or much of the loans in the CDOs have been given to subprime borrowers aka people who have little or bad credit history), and thereafter sold by the investment banks to investors all over the world. That in one sentence is basically what happened in 2008. So basically Mr. Joe Banker doesn't have to worry one bit whether Mr. Al Borrower will actually pay the loan. Because the risk of default has been passed way down the line to Mr. OMG Investor. And to make things worse, because of this disconnect between action and consequence, Mr. Joe Banker prefers to give the loan to subprime borrowers. Why? Because in subprime housing loans, the interest rates are much, much higher. So increase in the Bank's profit but at zero increase in the bank's risk. It's like magic!
The magic never lasts...

TEMPORAL BULL OR SPIRITUAL BULL? So when Moses came down the mountain and found his flock performing some ghastly dance around the golden bull (or is it golden calf? Oh who cares...), he was faced with a spiritual challenge. And he resorted to resolve this spiritual problem with the intensity for which Moses is well known for. The Golden Bull of Wall Street may appear at first instance to be a wholly temporal bull. But this is not so. Otherwise, why did Jesus chase the money lenders out of the temple?

The spiritual problem with credit is essentially two - Firstly, it is the creation of value (meaning the loans banks can give out) from nothing (whereby you put a capital of USD1 but by some magical legislative alchemy, you are able to lend out USD10. Where did that USD9 came from?) In financial jargon this is called leveraging. In spiritual terms, this is called trying to usurp the attributes of God, the Only One who can create something out of nothing. I say 'trying' because you cannot actually usurp any Divine Attributes. You simply create a lie and convince humanity to believe the deceit.

Secondly, this 'easy credit' is an enabler. In the current slang introduced to me by Heche, enabler is not a nice term. It suggests someone or something which enables or creates the scenario which is conducive for someone else to do something not nice - Like being greedy, selfish and foolhardy (with other people's money). The 2008 credit scenario above is an advanced example of greed permitted to grow into a global cancer with the connivance of the regulators, the banks, the rating agencies and the investment banks.

THE OLD WAYS. In the olden days things weren't so bad. Pre-Reagonomics, high street banks (ie. retail and commercial banks) were not permitted to speculate with their depositor's money. That is left to investment banks, who were then mostly partnerships - in other words even if they do speculate, they do so with their own money (more or less). During Reagan's time, the clear demarcation between high street banks and investment banks were broken, and high street banks were permitted to speculate with their capital and depositor's money. This led to the Savings & Loans debacle in the USA in the 1980s. That decade also saw investment banks becoming public listed companies, which basically means that they are not playing just with their own capital anymore, but investing public's money too.
Any suggestions, sunshine?

Oh well, this is the world we have inherited now. I don't have any clever suggestions to make. I wish I did. Perhaps you have a solution?

DIVINE CREDIT. While you are thinking about it, I hope you will have a beautiful day, sunshine. But if it turns out to be a beautiful day, please... I don't want any credit. It's all God's.

wa min Allah at-taufiq.

The Prison of Heart and the White Flames - A confession of sorts...

The Prison of the Heart and the White Flames
The world cages my body,
But nothing is caging my mind
And nothing is caging my heart
But myself - my willful ego
So easily purchased
By those whispers that dog
My footsteps wherever I go.

Whispers that can turn
Into iron bars impervious to
The persuasion of reason
And its many seasons.

Oh Lord, Oh Prophet…
Set my heart free,
Light the white flames in me
That I might melt these bars,
Or that I myself might melt away…
Into blissful nothingness.

No more use to anyone,
Not to you, nor to me,
Deaf even to the whispers…

I am caged by my own ego. For I love myself more than the Prophet. I cannot deny this. Sad but true...

I do apologize if I have been giving the wrong impression. That was not planned... Pray for me, sunshine. That I might be a better man.

I was born a Pristine Nothing, then I became Something - the path to egoism and back to servanthood

I was born a Pristine Nothing
I was born a pristine nothing,
Though my mother and father
Undoubtedly thought me
Quite a something.
God bless their
saintly souls!

But as I grew old
I began to disobey,
Refusing to listen
And simply following
My nasty little ways.

So day by day,
I began to accumulate
Labels and stickers
Upon my pristine nothing,
Till nothing was left of my nothing.

I became something,
Defined, labelled and named
By the stickers and labels
Of my own making.
I am to be blamed...

I am no more that pristine nothing
That my mother gave birth to,
Sadly, this is me,
The sinner, the something,
The fool that you see now
Standing before you.

Do not worry, sunshine. I guess the prose is a little sad, but when you think about it, the beginning of a journey requires a reason. And this is the reason - for me to scratch and peel away at all the ugly labels and stickers which I, by my own failings, have stuck onto my pristine nothing. This is after all the Sinners' Almanac.

I have not come across the mirror of servanthood, so I have not seen the reflection of my spiritual form. But I know without even needing to look, my friend. I know that my spiritual form, with all the labels and stickers now upon it, is misshapen, deformed with weird sharp edges, sharp enough to cut anyone who comes too close to me. Otherwise, how is it that I often hurt people who are close and who love me? A biting remark, a scathing look... I can do all that very well.

So this is me, sunshine. And this is where I stand. I know you are a beautiful soul. But do not judge me too kindly simply because I can weave a beautiful yarn about God, Prophet, Humanity, Love and Compassion. I need all the prayers you can offer me, and all the kind thoughts and encouragement you can spare. I shall never be able to repay you, but for any kindness you show to this sinner, your recompense shall be with God. And I do believe, in spite of all my weaknesses in my faith, that God is Most Generous and Most Rewarding.

'Tis Thursday, have a blessed day.

Love is Stirring my Cup of Storm, Pouring Tea of Make Believe

Love is pouring tea of make believe
Love is stirring my cup of storm,
Pouring tea of make believe -
That love can change my everything,
That love will lure you back to me.

Love is stirring my cup of storm,
Serving tea of make believe -
That right and good shall always prevail,
Through tempest snow, through rain and hail.

Love is stirring my cup of storm,
Making tea of make believe -
That Love is watching over us
Since the day we breathe our first.

Love is stirring my cup of storm,
Pouring tea of make believe -
That Love made reign His kingdom be
If only mankind would still believe.

Another night that I am unable to sleep, sunshine. And this time, I am unable to even blame my friend Longhair. This time, Love is stirring my cup of storm, and perhaps by recording this little prose, Love shall calm the waters of my soul, and gently rest my soul to sleep. How can I say this, without appearing impolite or ungrateful - Please, Love.... I need my sleep!

wa min Allah at-taufiq.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2 out of 5) - Movie, Poetry and Review

MOVIE POETRY. A couple of weeks ago I shared with my brother my idea that the highest form of poetry nowadays is movies. When you think about it, poetry is about awakening your mind and your feeling towards some particular theme or idea, and I think that modern movies do that and they use all the other medium of communicating information and emotion – The set, the scenery, the lighting, cinematography, costumes, the OST music, and fundamentally, the script, the casting, the acting and the directorial and editing skills. The movies which I have found to be beautiful to the point of visceral poetry are such well known pictures as The Godfather (Coppola), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Cohen Brothers), Glengarry Glen Ross (James Foley), Sense & Sensibilities (Ang Lee), Leon / The Professional (Luc Besson), The Green Mile (Frank Darabont) and Green Card (Peter Weir), to name but a few.

So we have some movies that can evoke passion and poetry at its highest form of human expression. And then again we have Micheal Bey’s latest in The Transformers’ trilogy entitled Transformers: Dark of the Moon. I watched it yesterday and I don’t like it much.
PLOT? I shall not talk much about it since the plot appears to have been cooked up medium rare. I will give just 2 examples here. PLOT DEATH 1 - The movie would have us believe that Sam Witwiky (Shia LeBeouf), having saved the world twice in the 2 previous movies, was awarded honours by President Obama and the British government, and having made his way through an Ivy League university found it impossible to find a decent job. So much so that he swallowed his (much injured) male pride to accept a job as a mailroom boy (!) from his dishy (ish) new girlfriend’s dashing boss, Dylan Gould (played by McDreamy himself, Patrick Dempsey). PLOT DEATH 2 – Coming to the end, Sam’s girl goaded Megatron (Yes, mighty Megatron himself) to do something rather dramatic (well, I cannot tell you what it is since it might spoil your ‘enjoyment’ of watching the movie). Man, these robots may be technologically advanced, but boy, they are dumb.
SUPERHUMANS – And it also appears that dear old Sam is a mutant, because only a super human can survive the sheer physical trauma he encountered when he gets up close and personal with one of the nasty Decepticons. Hmm. Maybe he is an alien too. If you have seen the trailer, you would have also seen one of the mega CGI scenes when one Decepticon (ShockWave) is literally ripping a high rise tower apart, and Sam, Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whiteleyl and some other non-descript extras are flung across the floor, and sent skimming down the side of the collapsing building(!). And after all that, nay a sprained ankle amongst these super lucky people. *Urk*

SCRIPT AND ACTING – I don’t have the heart to blame anyone because I think Shia (in Suburbia) is a competent actor, and John Turturro, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand are amazing thespians. So I blame the script. It sucks.

PLAUSIBILITY. Of course in reality there are no alien robots on planet earth, taking their blood (oil?) feud from their devastated home planet down to earth. I can suspend reality for that, indeed I cherish the enjoyment I had with the 1st movie and even the 2nd movie (just about). But this time around Michael is simply asking too much of me. Even in a comic superhero movie adaptation, the action sequences, even if physically an impossibility, must be set in a background of plausible human interaction and character development.

I am giving this movie a 2 out of 5. Actually I wanted to give it a 3 (for the awesome CGI), but I am dicing one point out because Megan Fox is not here anymore.

I KNOW YOU ARE GONNA WATCH IT ANYWAY. But I know that you will still watch it. Because it is a Transformers movie. And when the closing credits trailed down the screen, there was even applause (!) amongst some of the cinemagoers last night. So may be it is to your taste just as it was Mika's. But it certainly isn’t mine.

Have a lovely day, sunshine.
